Commission your Portrait
Commissioning your portrait couldn't be easier, just follow the steps below or use the contact form for further information.
1. Take a look at my pricing guide below and decide what you would like me to do.
2. Send or email me your favorite photograph (or two or three) of the subject so that I have sufficient reference from which to work. email to: [email protected]
3. If you already know what photograph you want me to use as reference, this stage will not be necessary. If you have sent me two or three photographs from which you want me to create a new pose, I will send you some rough sketch suggestions from which you can choose.
4. Once you are happy for me to proceed, I will go ahead and produce the final drawing. Once finished, I will email you a copy for your approval and payment. Payments can be made by cheque, direct bank transfer or Paypal and I will furnish all the necessary information by email.
5. As soon as any payment has been made and cleared, I will dispatch the original by standard post, or by special delivery, or courier, at extra cost.

your portrait
All portraits are done on A3 size good quality watercolour paper, unless requested otherwise.
I can work with any photograph you send me but please remember that it is all the reference I have and the better the quality of the image, the easier it is for me to see the finer details, especially around the eyes. I don't know your subject so please be sure that all of the person or pet is in frame and not cropped or partially obscurred by another character or background object.
If you are unsure about what picture to send me, here are some tips to think about if you find yourself spoiled for choice. They apply to both people and pets.

Unless you particularly want it, or you think it suits the character of your subject, it is usually adviseable to avoid profile poses.
Full front poses also tend not to look interesting with a danger of looking too much like a passport picture.
Three quarter front to right or left, when both eyes can be seen,
tends to work best as a portrait.
A low or high camera angle in this format can also add some extra interest or drama to the final portrait.
Finally, you might like to think about the lighting in your photograph. It is the shadows that define the characteristics and facial details and the greater the contrast between light and dark, the more interesting will be the final portrait.
